Lou has over 25 years experience in helping clients with their real estate and mortgage transactions. Lou is an instructor of law classes to the Alberta Real Estate Association, Calgary and Edmonton Real Estate Boards, and Mount Royal College. He is an active member of the Real Property Section of the Canadian Bar Association, having served on the executive for a number of years, including as Chairman from 1993 to 1995.
As legal counsel to the Alberta Real Estate Association, Lou is a standing member of the Standard Forms Committee which reviews and revises all standard contracts used by the real estate industry in the Province of Alberta. Lou is a frequent contributor to and panelist on real estate continuing education seminars organized by the Legal Education Society of Alberta, and is an Editorial Board member for the Alberta Residential Conveyancing Guide.
Lou was born in the Czech Republic and immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1969 at the age of eleven. He graduated from the University of Calgary Law School and was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 1983. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1996 and served as Honourary Consul of the Czech Republic in the Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan from 1996 to 2001.
Lou is a recipient of the Masaryk Award issued by the Czechoslovak Association of Canada to Canadians of Czech origin for outstanding achievement in some field of endeavor as well as the Centennial Medal issued on the occasion of Alberta's Centennial to honour Albertans for their volunteer contributions.
