Melanie Wells

Melanie is a member of the Blood Tribe, which is part of the Blackfoot Confederacy, and was raised on the Blood Indian Reserve in southern Alberta. Her personal background provides her with firsthand insight into and an appreciation of the legal concerns and issues affecting First Nations.

Melanie has devoted her practice to advising First Nation governments, administrations and corporate entities. She provides advice in various areas including governance, Aboriginal and Treaty rights and claims, consultation, oil and gas, corporate and commercial. Additionally, Melanie drafts legislation for First Nation governments which incorporates their specific customs and protocols.

Melanie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Lethbridge and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Alberta and was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 1995. She has lectured and presented on a variety of legal issues affecting First Nations.
